The Forks Township Fire Department responded to the local crash and found the vehicle slammed through the living room of a local home on the night of Saturday, July 30, the department said.

According to a GoFundMe launched for the family, the driver was speeding before running over the curb, hitting a fire hydrant, and “flying” into the home.

“They worked so hard to purchase this home and in an instant it is ruined because of a reckless driver,” reads the fundraiser.

“The driver's vehicle went through their living room wall, causing structural damage, making the home uninhabitable.”

Nearly $2,800 had been raised as of Monday, August 1 with funds being used for temporary housing and other immediate needs for Gussie and Kelly, as well as their children and two dogs.

“This is all causing a lot of emotional distress as you could imagine having a vehicle go through your family living area where you spend your time together,” the campaign says.

“…They are going to have to figure out where they will be staying, how their children are getting to school, get their school supplies, etc., in the midst of this unfortunate disaster.”

It is not known when the family will be able to regain access to the home, or whether the structure is salvageable, the fundraiser says.

“The situation is a complete stressful time for them and we want to try to lift their spirits in any way we can,” reads the campaign.

“This is such a devastation and we need any help we can get to help Gussie, Kelly and the kids get their lives somewhat back to normal.”
